SIERRA NEVADA OBSERVATORY

 

 

The Sierra Nevada Observatory (OSN) is placed in Sierra Nevada, in the place of la loma deDílar, in Granada. It has two telescopes in configuration Nasmyth with 1.5 m and 0.90 m of aperture located in a building with rectangular form of 10 for 20 meters of plant, with the major axis orientated in direction this west. The telescopes are installed in two domes of  9 and 6.5 meters.

Recently there has installed a tetrascope formed by a set of four small placed telescopes of two in two in rwo cockpits.

The OSN is managed and operated by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA).

By virtue of an agreement between the company Nanjing Astronomical Instruments Factory (NAIF), belonging to the Academy China of the Sciences and the IAA start the construction of two telescopes Ritchey-Chretien of 1,5 and 0,9 m. respectively that were installed in the OSN at the end of 1991.
 

 
 

 

Tetrascope

The Sierra Nevada tetrascopio is a set of four telescopes of 0.36m of diameter used for the detection and analysis of sparkles of impact in the dark side of Moon visible from the Earth and for a systematical tracking in search of objects transneptunians of great size.
The equipment is located in a few small cockpits of total opening. There are two telescopes for every cockpit.
