 TEIDE OBSERVATORY

Placed in the island of Tenerife, in the Canary islands , the Observatorio del Teide (OT) was inaugurated in 1985 and it belongs with the Observatory of the Roque de los Muchachos to the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC).

An altitude of 2400 meters the Observatorio del Teide devotes itself preferably to the study of the Sol, centering in it the best solar European telescopes.

In the last years it installing robotics telescopes that will be able to be operated entirely by remote control, without need of the physical presence of the astronomer in the observatory.

Telescopio Carlos Sánchez (TCS)

Property of Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), the telescope Carlos Sanchez is used principally for the observation in the infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum in which emit the "cold" objects of the Universe. It is one of the major telescopes of this type that they exist in the world.

Vacuum Tower Telescope (VTT)

photo: Hans Schremmer

It has a primary mirror of 70 cm of diameter and a vertical spectrograph of 15 meters of length. Also it has a "Solar Correlator" for observations of high spatial resolution. The VTT is a property of the Institute Kiepenheuer of Friburgo's Solar Physics (Germany).

Telescopio IAC-80

photo: Walter Koprolin

It has been designed and constructed by IAC, has a primary mirror of 0.80 meters. With the IAC-80 there discovered the first brown dwarf baptized as Teide 1. It entered functioning 1991.

Astrophysical Institute Potsdam

The GREGOR solar telescope with a mirror of 1.5 meters can realize measurements of the photosphere and of the solar cromosphere with a resolution of 70 km. It is a telescope of opened structure with a totally retractable dome. It belongs to a consortium of German institutions together with other international associates

Optical Ground Station (OGS)

photo: David Fernández-Barba

The Optical Ground Station (OGS), it is a part of a more wide project of the European Space Agency (ESA) that consists of developing systems of optical communication between satellites. The OGS will serve besides the observation of spatial garbage.

THEMIS

photo:Themis

The solar telescope THEMIS of 90 cm of diameter allows to realize measurements of the intensity and the direction of solar magnetic field, for it, it is capable of operating simultaneously in diverse bands. The THEMIS is of French-Italian property.

Solar Laboratory

photo: IAC

The Solar Laboratory is a set of two telescopic facilities in which there are located diverse instruments dedicated to programs of observation of the Solar Physics in the long term and of the "Helioseismology".

These instruments are:

MARK-I: Solar Espectrofotometer.
IRIS      :
Solar Espectrofotometer.
TON      : Solar Fotometer.
LOI       : Solar Fotometer.

GONG   :
Interferometer

MONS Telescope

STARE

photo: IAC

STARE (STellar Astrophysics and Research on Exoplanets) dedicates to the search of extrasolar giant planets observing it stellar transit. An important by-product of this search will be a complete review of variable stars. STARE is a member of TrES, one net of three telescopes of small aperture that look for planets in stellar transit.

Optical Telescope Array (OTA)

photo: Luis Fernando Rodríguez (IAC)

The American entity "Telescope Society" by reason of the agreement signed with the IAC is going to install of a net of optical robotic telescopes in the Islands governed by remote control, to put the telescopes at the disposal of the public in general under the payment of a quota.
