ROQUE DE LOS MUCHACHOS OBSERVATORY

Placed in the island of La Palma, in the Canary islands Canaries, the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory (ORM) was inaugurated in 1985 and with the Teide Observatory belongs to the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC).

The Roque de los Muchachos has an altitude of 2423 meters and is next to the Nature reserve of Caldera de Taburiente. This Observatory offers exceptional conditions for the night observation, the Solar Physics and the High Energy astrophysics .

The extraordinary quality of the sky for the astrophysics observation has done that establish in it telescopes of a great number of countries.

Gran Telescopio de Canarias (GTC)

It is a telescope of segmented primary mirror of 10,4 meters of diameter and of high presentations. On the verge of entering service, it will be one of the major ones and more advanced telescopes of the world. The GTC is the first project of " great science " that Spain is carrying out, led by the Institute of Astrophysics of Canaries (IAC).
